INFO: What's New in Web Tracks 2013 (9.10)

Description
General

A Database Setup Wizard has been created. This allows you to connect to databases, create new databases and upgrade databases through the web interface.

Creating a new SQL Server database no longer requires a copy of MS Access. Upsizing through MS Access is now only required to move from Access to SQL Server.

A view manager has been added to the major grid views. This allows you to save different views of a particular grid. For example you could have a help desk view showing urgent tickets and another view showing only personal tickets. Column selection, column width, filters and sort order are saved within each view.

When duplicating records there is now a check box to ‘Edit after duplicating’.

Graphic attachments now show a thumbnail preview in the attachment grids.

A new theme ‘Metropolis’ has been added.

SQL Server 2012 is now supported.

Major Grid Views in Web Tracks support a right-click context menu allowing quick access to common grid functions.

Submenus have been added to the main administrative menu.

The currency fields in Web Tracks are no longer limited to 6 digits preceding the decimal separator. This makes the programs more compatible with international cultures that have larger numbers in their currency fields.

Attachments can now be deleted from the ‘Admin – Manage Attachments’ without having to open the parent record.

Certain links may have appeared in the Admin form to which the user did not have access. These links are now hidden if the user does not have appropriate access. Previously the links were visible but if the user without proper access clicked them they would see an access denied message.

End-User visibility in dashboard objects now refers to users who do not have ‘Help Desk’ permissions to Web Tracks rather than not-licensed.

Horizontal scrollbars have been removed from most grids and now only appear when needed.

Grids which support attachments now have a column that can be made visible named attachment count. This column uses an icon to display its value to save on grid width.

JavaScript, iFrames and form elements can be used in dashboard objects.

Attachments now show the time attached in addition to the date.

Auditing

Added Audit by IP Address range as a way of auditing computers on a network. This applies to the audit wizard in Web Tracks and WTAudit.exe.

Added Audit by Computer Name (one or more names may be listed) as way of auditing computers on a network. This applies to the audit wizard in Web Tracks and WTAudit.exe.

Windows 8 and Microsoft Office 2010, 2013 Product Keys are now detected.

64 bit only applications are now detected in audits.

Audit now detects last boot up time, bios name and OS architecture.

WTAudit.exe now works on .Net 2 through .Net 4.5. Previously .Net 2 through .Net 3.5.1 was required.

In the computer list you may now right click on one or more computers and select ‘Audit Selected Computer(s)’.

Auditing network computers no longer requires that the remote registry service is running on the computer being audited.

The Audit Wizard progress indicator now properly works for cultures that do not use the period as the decimal separator.

When viewing a computer in Web Tracks the Hardware Tab now includes a link to audit the computer (computer must have a computer name for this link to be visible).

The import audit files feature has moved from ‘Admin – Import Audit Files’ to ‘Admin – Audit Computers – Import Audit Files’.

Removed ping test as criteria for auditing a single computer. Ping is now only used to only help determine the cause of an audit failure.

The help file for troubleshooting audit errors has been updated with more descriptive error messages.

Inventory

The ‘Warranty Date’ is automatically suggested when the ‘Manufacturer Date’ and Warranty ‘Month fields’ have been entered.

In addition to prompting for a new Tag number, duplicating a computer now also prompts for the computer name.

Fixed a bug when disposing of computers or peripherals where the serial number could be too large to fit in the disposed equipment table. The disposed equipment table has been modified to accept serial numbers from either of these tables.

Duplicating Computers now duplicates detected software (if option is checked).

Duplicated peripherals now has an option to include associated linked documents.

Duplicating Software Assets now has an option to include associated linked documents.

Purchasing

Using suggest for a PO Number now uses its own numbering system. The PO number will attempt to add 1 to the last PO number entered in the system. In addition the field does not need to be numeric only. It will attempt to add 1 to a PO number that starts or ends with a number. PO Numbers can now be up to 15 characters long. The previous limit was 10 characters.

Line Items within purchase orders default to a quantity of 1 and a price of 0.

Right Click option has been added to receive all items on the purchase order grid.

When inventory items are linked to a purchase order there is now a ‘details’ hyperlink that can be opened. If linked to a Web Tracks purchase order the details window will contain a link back to the purchase order.

Help Desk

The Ticket Comment Grid now displays line breaks making the comments more readable from this view.

Attachment Count, Last Comment, Last Comment Date, Last Comment Hours, Last Comment UserID have been added as a variables which can be used in Email Templates.

Emails sent from the help desk will now send private comments if the recipient is a technician. Previously private comments were always hidden in any emails sent from help desk.

An additional email recipient field has been added to the ‘Change Notify & Close’ popup window allowing you send a Help Desk notification to an additional email address.

Technicians in Web Tracks can change the ticket status, priority, technician, or add a comment to a ticket using the right click context menu when viewing the ticket list.

There is now an option to always notify technicians when they’ve been assigned a ticket. Previously this was only enforceable if an end-user made a request. Now there is an option to automatically notify even if the ticket was created (or transferred) by another technician. In addition the rules are more descriptive in the ‘Admin—Email Settings – Mail Options’ Tab.

When a user is notified of a ticket via email this information is now noted in the ticket’s history field.

When clicking ‘Save Notify & Close’ there is an option to add the ‘Prebody Text’ of the email as a new comment within the ticket.

The Duplicate Ticket command now uses the suggested due date offset (added to the current date) rather than adding one to the due date of the ticket which is being duplicated.

The option to allow the ticket history field to be viewable by non-technicians has been removed.

The Comment Count column in the ticket list now uses an icon in its header to save on grid width.

Knowledge Base

The ‘Edit’ button no longer appears on the knowledge base grid view for users who do not have permissions to edit the record. Previously the button may have been visible but clicking on the button would display a permission denied message if the user did not have appropriate access.

An admin interface has been added to manage Knowledge Base Types.

Email-To-Ticket Converter

Outgoing Email supports SSL.

Added a line break after the email subject to the ticket description for better readability.

When an attachment is rejected due to its size, a note is made on the tickets description field (for new tickets) or on the ticket comment field (for existing tickets) so the technician is aware that an attachment was rejected. Previously this information was written to the Web Tracks Windows Event Log.

Upgrade Notes

Due to changes in the underlying tables the grid columns have been reset for all licensed users.
